BBQ on the Bluff

It's the season of the outdoor barbeque, and where better to enjoy good food and even better company than someone else's back yard? Just think: No clean-up. No cooking. No weird relatives.

Not that I would know anything about weird relatives.

Like the idea of dirtying someone else's dishes? Then this Saturday, bring the whole family to Stone Bluff Cellars to experience the exquisite pairing of springtime and BBQ in an Oklahoma vineyard. There will be food, music, fun and, of course, wine aplenty from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Admission to the festival is free, and so is parking.

When you go, be sure to spend some time wine tasting. Tasting tickets are $1 each, and anyone who spends $5 gets a wine glass. Be sure to bring those IDs, kiddos - the folks at Stone Bluff will be checking 'em.

Follow your nose to the rotating lift smoker for some good old-fashioned Oklahoma barbeque. Lunch is $10 for adults and $6 for kids 10 and under. The menu features smoked pork loin, Italian loaf bread, coleslaw and spicy BBQ beans. The show will be run by award-winning Arkansan BBQ champ Jim Sposato.

Work off lunch by putting on those walking shoes and head out on a vineyard and winery tour.

Stop by anytime at Stone Bluff Cellars for a sip and a sit away from the hubbub of the city and the 'burbs. Hours are Fridays 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Join the Stone Bluff Cellars mailing list to get news about special wine brunches and dinners. Those events are pretty swanky, but the Stone Bluff folks don't forget to pour on plenty of Oklahoma charm. Come ready to relax.

Get to Stone Bluff Cellars, at 24145 E. 191st Street South in Haskell, by hitting US 64. Take 191st Street South to the winery. Or, take the long way. It's a beautiful drive you won't soon forget.
