It's the first annual RiverRush, and from sunup to sundown, it's bringing a 5K run, an activity expo featuring a few of the many groups that meet at River Parks to work out and hang out, a fancy schmancy gala and what promises to be a helluva concert, courtesy of Grammy-Award winner Joss Stone, to the heart of Tulsa.
RiverRush celebrates the 35-year milestone of River Parks, which has grown and changed the looks of Tulsa's riverbanks tremendously over the course of more than three decades. One doesn't have to travel Riverside Drive for long to notice that the park is in the middle of of its most extensive renovation ever.
Anyone who hasn't been to River Parks to check out the miles of new, spiffy dual trails, new lighting and furnishings and the oh-so-refreshing 41st Street Plaza is sorely missing out.
Make plans to grab an arm-load of friends and get to RiverRush this weekend. Anyone who takes part helps to fund a signage program at River Parks. After all, River Parks is a big place, and sometimes newcomers could use some help finding entrances, directions, park guidelines and event information.
I mean, we don't want our visitors wandering aimlessly around our ground zero of the best outdoor recreation to be had in this town. That's just not what we all know and love as Tulsa hospitality.
Wait. I mentioned giving something away, didn't I? Something really, really good, I think I said. Do you remember that? Because I remember that.
Here 'tis: Thanks to the folks behind the RiverRush festival, I have four tickets to the RiverRush Joss Stone concert at the BOK Center to give to two worthy and lucky readers here at TDT.
I know, right?
The first reader to guess how many estimated visits River Parks receives from area residents and newcomers each year is an automatic winner.
If you're not the first with the correct answer, don't worry. Keep entering, and I'll let Random.org pick a winner from all of the correct answers posted to this blog by Friday morning at 8am.
Want to better your chances for such choice tix (which are, by the way, valued at $75 apiece)? There's an app for that - a few, actually. Hop on Facebook, Twitter - whatever suits your fancy - and post about RiverRush and/or this giveaway and receive not just one, but five (FIVE!) extra entries.
Feel free to do this as many times as you like, on one condition: Anytime you post on Facebook or Twitter, come back to this post and let me know about it. Otherwise, I have no way of being sure that I know about each of your many attempts to snag this prize.
Fairness: It's my goal in this life. That, and cookies. Also, cake and pie.
Good luck, everyone, and I'll see you at RiverRush.

I'd guess 10,000. I'm sure that's way too many...but I can dream, right?
I meant 100,000. I was trying to type fast!
1 million estimated but there is really no way to know.
I am guessing 1.25 million.
How would they figure this out? I'm willing to bet it's somewhere around 1 million. Seems high, but I'll roll with it.
River Parks receives an estimated one million visits each year from area residents and newcomers.
1 million visitors
source: Tulsa World. But then again. . .
Just tweeted how much i'd love to have those other two tickets. random drawing, huh? i'm good at random. i think my chances are pretty good.
I'm gonna guess somewhere around 500,000 annual visitors to riverparks ?? And if I win I hope it's transferrable cause my sis is here and REALLY wants to win this! :)
Wish I was good at random.. that could be useful. If nothing else my @aycockonxion Twitter post will drive more traffic to the contest and make my chances of winning that much lower. Alas, I STILL hope I winz them tix!
I am going to say 1 million.
1 million visitors
mr. google says one million estimated visitors! i would not have guessed that! wow. from now on, i should start brushing my hair before i hit the bike trails in the a.m. ;)
I'm gonna go with the flow and guess at 1 million...
I estimate at least 3000 a day which would put it just over a million people per year.
I say 1 million as well.
1 million
1 million visitors.
I just posted about this to my Facebook.
In trying to figure this out and such, I found it interesting some of the numbers out there. Like Oktoberfest brings in between 55 and 60 thousand. The QT 50th bash had 30 plus thousand with 16 to 18 thousand just for Hansen. Then those little events like runs and bike races that brought in several thousand at a time. Couldn't find a number for the 4th of July festival, but that must be very large as well. Too bad I live on the other side of town, or I might be utilizing the area.
So, I am guessing the 1 million mark is the standard, though I think Tonja and crew would take my original 1.25 number! He he.
I'm gonna go with 967,203.5 cause there are always 0.5 kids when siting statistics.
I believe 54,730 visits/year.
Thanks DCR
I believe it's 1.7 million per year.
Using my best Dr Evil voice, "One million visitors" :)
one million. give me my prize. thanks in advance.
so, i'm guessing most of these people are correct...and the answer is approximately one million visitors per year. (please people, don't fail me now...)
