What to Do in Tulsa This Weekend
Where else in the world can you get dozens of local bands playing in two huge downtown music festivals; a celebration featuring more than 80 different kinds of beer; a film festival that's gone big and come back home; and a gun show, a home and garden show, a horse show and a giant flea market, all of those last four happening within walking distance of each other?
No where else but Tulsa, Oklahoma. And that, my friends, is a wonderful thing.

Savoy's Famous Cinnamon Rolls, a Boy and the Fork That Was Too Slow
See that up there? That, my friends, is half a pound of soft, buttery dough, perfectly sweet icing and enough cinnamon to last you until you can make it home for the holidays.
And it can only be found at Tulsa's Savoy Restaurant, just north of 61st and Sheridan in Tulsa.

Wild Brew 2010: Food, Music, Beer and You
Ladies and gents, we have a winner!
I loved this story because it's real. It's relatable. And it's a classic story of that first beer. Plus, it made my tummy do that nervous churn-y thing. I like that in a story. And I loved that he remembered the name of the officer who reprimanded him but, ultimately, let him off the hook.
Enjoy your passes, Michael! Here's to hoping that the beers you'll enjoy this weekend will cause you much less angst than that first one did.
And thanks to all of you for playing - see you all at Wild Brew!

You could rent a jet and go globe-trotting to try 80 of the world's premium beers.
Or, you could buy tickets to the Wild Brew, Tulsa's "crawl-in-one" beer tasting, music and food festival at the Exchange Center at Expo Square Saturday, July 31st (just one Saturday from now). The event kicks off at 5pm, with a patron-only hour at 4pm.

What to Do in Tulsa This Weekend
Where else in the world can you get a sky full of overgrown remote-control airplanes, an up-all-night horror film festival, a cast and crew putting on two plays in two theaters at the same time, all weekend long and a down-home, old-fashioned bluegrass and ice cream festival?
No where else but Tulsa, Oklahoma. And that, my friends, is a wonderful thing.

Campfire Cooking, A Beatnik, Tacos and Squirrels: Tulsa Blog Roundup
For anyone looking for a variety of interesting online reading, Tulsa's blogosphere provides.
At last count, Tulsa was home to more than 100 blogs, and those are just the ones to which I've been alerted and subscribe. Needless to say, then, in the pages of Tulsa blogs, there's something for everyone.
I got such a great response from last week's edition that I decided to round up my favorite posts written by Tulsa bloggers this week.
Personal Chefs on the Cutting Edge
Tulsa’s personal chefs can be found in the city’s swankiest homes. Now they’re breaking out of the kitchen to set up shop in historic and up-and-coming neighborhoods.

Tulsa Blogger Meetup, July 2010 Edition
There's more to blogging than twice-reheated coffee, bathrobes and pink bunny house shoes.
At least, I'm pretty sure there is.
From our first meeting in February, Tulsa Blogger Meetup was formed to strengthen the local community of independent, online publishers. We want to encourage excellence in local blogging, too.
We're also fans of giving ourselves a good excuse to get together each month for laughs, beers and the occasional, delicious noms.
We hope you'll join us for what's going on at TBM this month (full details after the jump).

The Linnaeus Teaching Gardens: From The Secret Tulsa Treasures File
Did you know that Tulsa is the site of a 1.5-acre teaching garden? It's true. It's called the Linnaeus Teaching Gardens, and since the summer of 2006, it can be found in Woodward Park at 21st Street and Peoria Ave., just east of the Tulsa Rose Garden. And guess what - you can see it free, and it's open to the public six days a week.
Also? It's beauty and serenity and information and volunteers are totally gonna blow you away. This ain't no garden-variety garden, people.
I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself. Backing away from the pun machine in 3, 2, 1...
Until you can pay a visit to the Linnaeus Teaching Gardens to experience if for yourself, I'm gonna let my two-year-old lead us on a virtual tour of sorts.
Ready? Me, too. Let's go.

What to Do in Tulsa This Weekend
Where else in the world can you get the crowning of Miss Peach, a cook-off starring frybread as big as your head, a 34-foot Slip-n-Slide in a swimsuit edition of a minor league baseball game and a visit from Professional Bull Riders, all in one weekend?
No where else but in Tulsa, Oklahoma, my friends. And that's a wonderful thing.

16 Ways to Keep Cool in Tulsa this Week
Temperatures don't look too forgiving here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this week - highs are charted to be in the mid- to upper-90s until beyond the seven-day forecast - but that doesn't mean that your only choice for entertainment is to camp out next to the nearest air conditioning vent.
There's still tons of ways to get out on the town and have a great time, all without breaking a sweat. Here are a few ideas.

Joz: Mod Design Love
I'm a design geek wannabe. A requirement of all design geek wannabes (and actual design geeks alike) is, if not an undying, fiery love for mid-century modern design, then at least a general appreciation of the style that's worn as a mask to disguise an undying, fiery love for said style, called mid-mod for short.
This is an easy love to cultivate here in Tulsa. Between Lortondale and our famous neon signs on our stretch of Route 66 and our strong design and architecture community here in Tulsa, it's sort of unusual not to stumble upon these vestiges of the '50s and '60s in everyday life in this town.
A drive down 15th Street (a.k.a. Cherry Street) surely won't offer protection from such a chance meeting.

Mod's Coffee and Crepes. Plus, ZOMG!!1! My kid was on TV!
It's not very often one sees a child at a downtown restaurant in the middle of the day. Suits and ties, yes; Toy Story light-up sandals and Zany Bands, no.
Maybe that's why when my little guy visited downtown earlier this week to try my friend Rusty's new restaurant, Mod's Coffee and Crepes, he attracted the attention of the media.

Power Lunch: Cafe Samana
We waited with anticipation to see what would become of the space that now houses Cafe Samana when its former tenant, Blue Moon Bakery, moved north on Brookside to Center 1 late last year. When we stopped in for lunch, we found a restaurant, open since Feb. 5, that is more than worthy of the space.
Snack on the rest of this restaurant review on the Food page of this week's edition of Tulsa Business Journal.

Slumber Party 2 at Circle Cinema
Michael Champlin from The Tulsa Project joins us today with some news from Tulsa's own indie movie theater, Circle Cinema. Take it away, Michael!
In a city which came of age in the golden era of Hollywood, it's not all that surprising to find that at one point in its history the city of Tulsa had a collection of world-class movie theaters.
There were a multitude of Art Deco movie houses downtown, not to mention the Delman at 15th and Lewis, the Brook (now a restaurant) on Brookside, and last (though certainly not least) the little-theater-that-could, the Circle at Whittier Square. Constructed in 1928, the theater remains the oldest existing theater in Tulsa.
But, enough with the history lesson. Lets talk movies.

Cheap Thrills: Just the Way I Like 'Em
Lucky for those who enjoy a good romp through some resale retail, Tulsa is home to scads of thrift and vintage shops and flea markets.
But while we have everything from Goodwill and Salvation Army outlets to kids' consignment to second-hand hotel furniture super shops, there's nothing in Tulsa quite like this.

Where else can you get a dozen fireworks shows, a movie on the lawn of a world-class museum, a Cajun festival and a Lady Gaga concert that is so fabulous, it doesn't even need the real Lady Gaga?
Nowhere but in Tulsa, my friends. And that's a wonderful thing.
Here's your itinerary for getting down with T-Town this weekend.

Cherry Street Farmers' Market: Erin Sees Tulsa
In an effort to beat the heat last Saturday, my first photo shoot of the day was at 8am.
Even starting off that early did little to keep the sweat from dripping and the clothes from sticking. However, I was all smiles when my newly engaged couple agreed to finish up their shoot at the Cherry Street Farmer's Market.
