Of all the crazy and backward things I've done to conserve skrill, there's one that, 100 percent of the time, gets either a gasp, a look of shock or one of these: "Wha?!"
I have no cable television service. I haven't had it since before I was married, five years ago.
I always feel like I have to explain why not. It's a strange feeling to be motivated to do that, mostly because I still haven't managed to come up with a plausible explanation for why I'm not participating in this country's most cherished medium of communication.

haha...I didn't have cable while bringing up my 3 daughters. When M. Jackson died I watched many of his lesser videos for the first time. I finally got cable the year my youngest daughter graduated from High School in 2004 and moved out. They were all a bit miffed that I waited until they couldn't take advantage of it!
Now that I have cable I bet my family still only watches perhaps 4 channels with great regularity.
I loved your article. We don't have cable either, for the exact same reason. We don't even have a fancy flat screen TV because it would just end up be an expensive piece of furniture. Our three year old doesn't let us sit still long enough to watch a whole show, and we would stay up all night losing valuable sleep watching TV without him. Three cheers for the converter box- we get 23 channels with an antenna in our attic!
That is so funny! I've NEVER met anyone as cheap as me :) We don't have tv in our house...friends are shocked when they hear this...but we have movies, netflix and you can watch ANY show online now...never heard of hula, thanks for the info!

We don't have cable either...didn't want to pay for it when we would completely ignore one another for the stupid thing. We definitely talk more now and things are way more peaceful!
I have to admit that we have had cable for 30 years and it was very needed when we got it. There were only 3 channels at the time and they were off the air by midnight, unfortunately my oldest did not take the hint of sleep. She did not sleep much at all and I needed something for those long, long, LONG nights. I'm such a TV junkie...so sad really.
