What To Do in Tulsa This Weekend
Thanks to nosediving temperatures and our proximity to Turkey Day, it's really beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in T-Town.
Holiday activities are either getting started or ramping up starting Friday night, and there will only be more ways to enjoy the season as we press on toward the night of Santa's yearly trek across what are, thanks to our zany weather here in the great state of Oklahoma, the best weather radars in the country. The fat man doesn't get past nobody 'round these parts.
If you're not quite ready to get neck-deep in holiday cheer, there's plenty to do around town that's just about as far from Christmas as Independence Day. Check the music, art and sports circuits for ways to work out your wiggles before the workweek intrudes on a perfectly good Monday morning.

Turkey Tea Party

Load up the kids and head to Whiteside Park in south Midtown to make turkeys and remember the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday. All participants must be pre-registered, so be sure to call the park at (918) 746-5040 to sign up. Kids aged 2-5 are welcome. Cost is $6.
Lights On at Riverwalk Crossing
When: Friday, 5:30-8:30pm
Where: Riverwalk Crossing in Jenks
Check out what the Riverwalk might look like if it doubled as a runway. Plus, visit Santa, catch performances by the Jenks Dance Academy and carolers and snag a carriage ride.
Salvation Army Angel Tree Lighting and Ceremony
When: Saturday, 3pm
Where: Woodland Hills Mall, 7021 S. Memorial Drive
Get warmed up for next week's Lights On event at Utica Square by stopping by Woodland Hills Mall this Saturday to watch a giant angel tree go up in lights. Don't forget to pick a few angels off the tree while you're at it. You get the warm fuzzies, the angels get a Christmas. It's a good trade, I'd say.
2009 Festival of Trees

Where: Philbrook Museum, 2727 S. Rockford Ave.
Get excited about the holidays by basking in the glow of dozens of artfully decorated Christmas trees in one of Tulsa's world-class art museums. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this celebration, the Philbrook's Festival of Trees. Don't forget to snag one of the FoT commemorative pins from the Philbrook Gift Shop, a place to keep in mind when it comes to shop for stocking stuffers.
Capitol Christmas Tree @ Philbrook
When: Sunday, 3-5pm.
Where: Philbrook Museum, 2727 S. Rockford Ave.
Every year, a different state is selected to provide the massive Christmas tree that sits outside the U.S. Capitol. This year, for the first time, the lucky tree is a Blue Spruce from Arizona. The 85-foot giant will make its way across the country, stopping in Oklahoma to stand tall at Philbrook Museum. Stop by yourself and sign a message on the trunk that will go all the way to Washington D.C.

An Affair of the Heart

Where: Expo Square, QuikTrip Center, 4145 E. 21st Street
Dozens of Tulsa billboards wouldn't lead you astray. We've all been hearing about An Affair of the Heart, a show of nearly 700 booths of arts, crafts, antiques, collectibles, accessories and gourmet foods. Sounds to me like a one-stop shop for a Christmas shopping jumpstart. Show admission is $6 and is good for all three days.
Continental Antique Show
When: Friday, 10am-6pm; Saturday, 10am-6pm; Sunday, 11am-4pm
Where: Expo Square, Central Park Hall, 4145 E. 21st Street
If there's one thing Oklahomans know, it's antiques. Plenty of oldies-but-goodies will be displayed for perusal this weekend at Tulsa's fairgrounds. Admission is $6 for adults and seniors, and children under 12 are admitted free.
Cuddle Monster Party

Where: Dwelling Spaces, 119 S. Detroit
Kids all over Tulsa have enjoyed Cuddle Monsters since they made their debut downtown at Dwelling Spaces, and now the family of monsters is growing. What more could you want for a cause for celebration? Snacks and beverages and plenty of good times will be on hand, as will the plushies we Tulsa patriots have grown to know and love.
Public Star Party

Where: Mounds Observatory
Bet against the forecast for cloudy skies by heading out to Mounds for this big leaguers of star parties. Enjoy the view through several different types of telescopes, some bigger than you are, and hear talks by members of the Astronomy Club of Tulsa. Families are welcome, but mind thine children. 11th International Transgender Day of Remembrance
When: Friday, 7:30pm
Where: Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, 621 E. Fourth Street
Join the international transgender community in recognizing the victims of anti-transgender hatred, prejudice and violence. Special musical guests are Council Oak Men's Chorale and Sisters in Song, with clergy from the faith community participating. This service publicly mourns and honors the lives those who might otherwise be forgotten.
30th Annual Martha Gragg Doll & Toy Show
When: Saturday, all day
Where: Expo Square Exchange Center, 4145 E. 21st Street

Creative Cartoons

Calling all cartoon lovers: Hang out with Andrea Wamble, the creator of Shrek, and learn how to create your own crazy cartoon character. Wamble comes to Philbrook from Dallas where she was the creative director of the accredited art school Art-A-Rama. Cost is $7, of $5 for members.
Introduction to Encaustic Painting

Ever painted with beeswax? If not, this is your chance. Encaustic paintings use melted beeswax, resin and pigments to create an amazing surface that can be built up to create translucent, yet textured, layers. All skill levels are welcome. Cost is $40, or $32 for members.
Meet Illustrator Lane Smith

Jump all over this rare opportunity to meet Lane Smith, the Tulsa-born children's book author and illustrator best known for his work in The Stinky Cheese Man, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and Hooray for Diffendoofer Day. There's even a little something for your wallet in all this Christmas craziness: It's a sales tax holiday weekend at participating Main Street Jenks shops, which means you get a discount equal to state and local taxes on all the gifts you buy this weekend. Route 66 Marathon

Where: Veterans Park, 18th and Boulder; Tulsa Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A, 100 Civic Center
It might be too late to start training, but it's not too late to register to run in one of the Route 66 Marathon runs. Get thee to the Health and Fitness Expo at Tulsa Convention Center Friday, 11am-6pm, or Saturday, 10am-6pm, to do the deal. Then, bright and early on Sunday morning (at 7:30am for full-, half- and relay-marathoners), lace up those sneaks and pound the pavement, baby. Good luck to all you gnarly runners out there, and don't forget to load up on lots of yummy carbs. I hear there's a pasta dinner at Dilly Deli Saturday night, starting at 5:30 where a trip through the pasta buffet runs $10 (be sure to call Fleet Feet at (918) 492-3338 to RSVP). At about 1/10th of a mile from the finish line, be sure to shield your eyes from the sun that will be gleaming from the chrome on dozens of classic cars on display in the Route 66 Marathon classic car show.

Their fascination with American roots music, bluegrass especially, drew singer/bassist Carol Young and multiple string-instrument master Kym Warner and violinist Eamon McLoughlin to perform together. Now, with an Americana Music Award and a Grammy nomination under their belts, they're coming to Tulsa to play for us. Tickets are $15, or $13 for students.
Dirtfoot with Randy Crouch

Gaither Vocal Band Reunited Tour 2009

The GVB got its start in the early 1980s with four guys singing around a piano backstage before a Bill Gaither Trio concert. Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young and Bill Gaither were just having themselves a good ol' time, harmonizing on “Your First Day in Heaven,” when Bill decided they should try out their new sound on a live audience that very night. Now, a quarter-century later, you gospel lovers can reap the benefits. Tickets are $35.50 and $45.50.
Big Smith Live

Check out this band from Springfield composed of five cousins and a fiddle player, cranking out raucous acoustic music that captures the spirit of their native Ozarks. Tickets are $8, or $10 at the door.
Tulsa Symphony: The Music of America

Where: Tulsa PAC, Chapman Music Hall, 110 E. Second Street
Get ready for some jazz, swing and showtunes in this exhibition of music Americana. Guest trumpeter Walter White put together the arrangements for all of the Great American Songbook selections performed for the evening, including artists from Gershwin to Ellington. Tickets are $10-65.
Generation Bridge in Concert

The program will include Mozart: Divertimento in D Major; Elgar: Serenade for Strings in E Minor; Chopin: Variations in B-Flat Major on Mozart's La ci darem la mano; Dvorak: Serenade for Strings in E Major. Get ready, history buffs, because some of the most famous debates in U.S. History, namely the 1858 debates between Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln, will come to life this weekend. The Vincent Downing Theatre Company will bring its full cast from off-Broadway performances at The Irish Repertory Theatre for the Tulsa performances. Tickets are $30, or $25 for members and $8 for students.
Indwelling: An ORU Dance Concert

The ORU Dance department kicks off its season this weekend with a diverse collection of dance works from the historical Pas de Quatre to fresh, contemporary works to flamenco, rhythm tap and new works from the fundamentals and advanced choreography courses. Looking for a Greek name for your baby? Choose here: Set in the city of Argos a few years after the Trojan war, this tragic play by Sophocles is based around the character of Elektra and the vengeance that she and her brother Orestes take on their mother Clytemnestra and step-father Aegisthus for the murder of their father, Agamemnon. I'd go with Agamemnon if I were you – it's very stately. Tickets are $10.

After a chance meeting in a museum, Evelyn, a sexy, aggressive artist and Adam, a shy, insecure student become embroiled in an intense love affair. What could possibly go wrong? Tickets are $25.
Born Again Yesterday

For anyone who knows the comedian Justin McKean and thinks he's a funny guy, just wait until you see him play 12 different characters, from hardcore Christian fundamentalists to God himself, all in one production. This play is for anyone who can identify with a man recovering from a childhood in a household run by fundamentalists. Tickets are $10.
Loony Bin Locals
When: Sunday, seating starting at 7:30, show starts at 8pm
Where: The Loony Bin Comedy Club, 6808 S. Memorial Drive
A full 20 comics will take the stage this Sunday in a show of Tulsa's newest up-and-comers with the city's hottest rising stars. Guests 18 and up are invited to the R-rated show. A full menu of drinks and noshes will be available. Admission is $5.

Fall Finale Horse Show

The show, presented by the Oklahoma Hunter & Jumper Association, is recognized by all three organizations. It's even rated an “S” schooling show. Big awards will be at stake for competitiors.
Cliff Keen Tulsa Nationals
When: Friday-Saturday
Where: Expo Square Pavilion, 4145 E. 21st Street
Purportedly the oldest, most prestigious junior wrestling event in the world (I guess the wresters of ancient Greece don't really count), more than 2,000 wrestlers aged 4-16 years and hailing from about 40 states will converge upon Tulsa to get their smack down.
8 on 8 Flag Football Tournament
When: Saturday, 10am-5pm
Where: Haikey Creek Park, 113th and Garnett Road
This isn't your Craigslist 8 on 8 football tourney, folks. In this case, there's a pretty serious cash prize - $1,000, to be exact, plus free entry into the next tournament. Entry per team is $250 for a max of 12 and a minimum of 8 players; brackets will be in double elimination format. There are prizes for second and third place, too – and trophies! - and there's still time to register at OffYoCouch.com.

The GVB got its start in the early 1980s with four guys singing around a piano backstage before a Bill Gaither Trio concert. Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young and Bill Gaither were just having themselves a good ol' time, harmonizing on “Your First Day in Heaven,” when Bill decided they should try out their new sound on a live audience that very night. Now, a quarter-century later, you gospel lovers can reap the benefits. Tickets are $35.50 and $45.50.

Stop by yourself and sign a message on the trunk that will go all the way to Washington D.C.

Continental Antique Show

What To Do in Tulsa This Weekend
It's the weekend, good buddies, and you know what that means – it's time to cut loose and read the lengthy list of events Tulsa has to offer before 8am on Monday. While headbanging. Because cutting loose and reading a long list seem somewhat at odds. And because the eve of Friday the 13th is upon us and what could possibly go wrong?
The weather won't be the beauty pageant we've enjoyed in recent weeks, but there will be plenty to do from underneath a roof. Tons of music and theatre are flooding the dance halls and playhouses this weekend, and then there's everything from early holiday shopping with Tulsa's naughtiest crafty chicks to Tulsa's largest Lebanese food festival to enjoy. You're sure to be well-cultured, entertained and, most importantly, in my opinion, well-fed.

McNellie's Pub Run

Two words, beer aficionados: Guinness challenge. That's what the folks at McNellie's mean when they talk about exercise, and the Pub Run is how they let the community join the fun. Choose the four-mile or the one-mile fun run, both starting and ending at McNellie's and winding through the historic Brady and Blue Dome Districts. Anyone who can glug three 12-ounce Guinness pints during the four-mile run and still beat out all others wins a coveted $300 house account at McNellie's. Ah, Lebanese food – one of my very favorite world cuisines. You can bet the folks at St. Antony will be fighting me, along with 2,000 other hungry people, back all weekend long, thanks to Hafli, Tulsa's largest Lebanese food festival, dinner and bake sale. There's more going on at Hafli, Arabic for “party” or “celebration,” than food - tours of the beautiful church, for one - but that's still what it's all about. Look for grilled chicken breast served over St. Antony's famous Hashwa (a blend of rice, beef and almonds), cabbage rolls, hummus, pita bread, Greba butter cookies and, of course, lots and lots of baklawa (yes, baklawa, something of a Lebanese version of baklava). Adults pay $12.50 for the meal, and kids 12 and under pay $5. Leaving with a bag full of food and baked goods is highly encouraged.

McNellie's Pub Run

Two words, beer aficionados: Guinness challenge. That's what the folks at McNellie's mean when they talk about exercise, and the Pub Run is how they let the community join the fun. Choose the four-mile or the one-mile fun run, both starting and ending at McNellie's and winding through the historic Brady and Blue Dome Districts. Anyone who can glug three 12-ounce Guinness pints during the four-mile run and still beat out all others wins a coveted $300 house account at McNellie's. Ah, Lebanese food – one of my very favorite world cuisines. You can bet the folks at St. Antony will be fighting me, along with 2,000 other hungry people, back all weekend long, thanks to Hafli, Tulsa's largest Lebanese food festival, dinner and bake sale. There's more going on at Hafli, Arabic for “party” or “celebration,” than food - tours of the beautiful church, for one - but that's still what it's all about. Look for grilled chicken breast served over St. Antony's famous Hashwa (a blend of rice, beef and almonds), cabbage rolls, hummus, pita bread, Greba butter cookies and, of course, lots and lots of baklawa (yes, baklawa, something of a Lebanese version of baklava). Adults pay $12.50 for the meal, and kids 12 and under pay $5. Leaving with a bag full of food and baked goods is highly encouraged.

Did you know Tulsa has eight sister cities in this world? It's true. This weekend, your kids can explore a few of them with Tulsa's libraries. For Celle, Germany, head to Broken Arrow Library; Beihai, China, will be at Zarrow Regional Library; Kaohsiung, Taiwan, at Rudisill Regional Library; and Amiens, France, at Kendall-Whittier Library. These programs will feature music, food, traditional dress, games and more. These events are free and are all-age appropriate.

What to Do in Tulsa This Weekend
It's going to be unseasonably warm this weekend – highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s, if you can believe it – and it's your solemn responsibility to enjoy the noodles out of it. Good thing there are plenty of events rocking this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Tulsa to help you do that.
In this weekend's set of events, you've got your cage fighting and microbrewed beer-inspired events; your fashion shows and vampire book signings; your country music legends and your battle of the bands. Choose wisely, Tulsans. There's a little something for everybody.

First Draft, Fifth Edition

There's still time to get your tickets to the fifth edition of one heckuva beer tasting event, this year at the spacious Blue Dome Diner. Come for the beer – more than 40 varieties of craftbrew, including several from Oklahoma's five microbreweries – and stay for the food, the wine (yes, wine – homemade, even), the people and the celebrity-judged t-shirt contest. Wings Over Tulsa/Freedom Hangar Dance

The weather couldn't be more perfect for an event that will take you back to the romantic and turbulent 1940s. Take the kids to see historical aircraft flights and displays, vintage cars and military vehicles, historical displays and reenactors and the veterans' hall of honor. Then, plan to take up some valuable floor space at one of the biggest swing dances in the country at the Big Band Era event of the year, the Freedom Hangar Dance. If you don't know what to do with that space, grab some free swing dance lessons starting at 5pm. Dinner is served at 5pm (don't forget to pre-order), the pre-show live music and patriotic salute is at 6pm and the 18-piece Sounds of Music Orchestra will strike up at 7pm. In between dances, there's shopping for mementos to be done at the PX. Buy tickets to the dance, which are $17.50 or a table for $150, at the gate or on the caftulsa.org. Admission to Wings Over Tulsa is $5, or $3 for seniors and military in uniform. Kids 12 and under get in free.

Battle of the Bands with YAMS

Join this year's celebrity judge Jason Gilardi, fomerly of the alternative band Caroline's Spine, in judging local bands' musicianship, visual presentation, originality, audience response and professionalism. The winning band wins studio recording time and a professional band photo session. Audience participation will be encouraged – in fact, it'll be used to judge the winning band. Look also for some serious raffle prizes. This event benefits the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

If you've always thought you could have kept up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as they danced to fiddles and drums below decks of the Titanic, this weekend is your chance to prove it. Alasdair Fraser, long regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador, joins Natalie Haas, a young west-coast cellist, to create the sound of a full Scottish dance band with just two instruments. Tickets to the show are $28. If you seek to become a master of strings yourself, don't miss the two-hour workshop with Fraser and Haas that starts at 2:30. Tickets are $15.

There will be world-class country-style entertainment, sure, but there will also be a roast-and-toast in honor of Vince. Proceeds go in part to Blue Star Mothers of America, Oklahoma Chapter 1. Tickets are $125. Presented by the Rotary Club of Will Rogers.
Great Music, Great Spaces

Following a commentary on the architecture of BAMC, Tulsa Symphony Chamber Players will perform pieces from Tulsa's (first) heyday: poems by Dame Edith Stilwell, first performed in 1926; and Octet for Wind Instruments by Igor Stravinsky, first performed in 1923. Open Studio Party with the Garden Deva

It takes someone special to be able to make a living as an artist long enough to throw a 10-year anniversary open studio party. Lisa Regan, the one and only metal sculpture artist known as Garden Deva, whose work adorns gardens public and private throughout Tulsa and, indeed, the entire U.S., is this homegrown special someone. Check out local food, art and music and fire dancing – yes, fire dancing - all day, all for free this weekend. Lots of Tulsa vendors, including the Garden Deva herself, will be on hand to help you out with that lengthy Christmas shopping list.
Museums on Us at Philbrook

Flash your Bank of America credit or check card and visit the museum free this weekend – that's a savings of $30 for a party of four adults. American Girl Fashion Show

Saturday kicks off the fashion shows, starting at 10am and continuing at 1pm and 4pm. The fun continues Sunday with shows at 1pm and 4pm. The Saturday and Sunday shows both feature local models and include a gift for all girls, as well as refreshments. There's nothing worse than spending an exciting, event-filled weekend sick on the couch. The next worst thing might be standing in line waiting to be inoculated, but still, it's the second-worst thing. Plus, it'll ensure that you're healthy and ready to do Tulsa during the weekends to come. The vaccine is available to these groups: All children aged 6 months-18 years; pregnant women; frontline heathcare workers; custodial parents of infants less than 6 months of age; persons 19-64 years of age with chronic medical conditions. The Tulsa Health Department will continue to hold walk-in clinics as the supply of the vaccines increase, so continue to check back at their flu hotline at (918) 595-4500 for details. Waldman, a mother of four, will bring to T-Town her views on motherhood that are so controversial that they caused a near mommy attack on Oprah. If you've always thought you could have kept up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as they danced to fiddles and drums below decks of the Titanic, this weekend is your chance to prove it. Alasdair Fraser, long regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador, joins Natalie Haas, a young west-coast cellist, to create the sound of a full Scottish dance band with just two instruments. Tickets to the show are $28. If you seek to become a master of strings yourself, don't miss the two-hour workshop with Fraser and Haas that starts at 2:30. Tickets are $15.

Great Music, Great Spaces

Following a commentary on the architecture of BAMC, Tulsa Symphony Chamber Players will perform pieces from Tulsa's (first) heyday: poems by Dame Edith Stilwell, first performed in 1926; and Octet for Wind Instruments by Igor Stravinsky, first performed in 1923. What to Do in Tulsa This Weekend
I hope you have your costumes steamed, pressed and dry cleaned, Tulsans, because this weekend, Halloween arrives.
We all share those memories of bone-chilling All Hallows' Eves of yore – you remember, the time you decided to be Superman or Tinkerbell the year the temperatures plummeted to 29 degrees. You won't be wishing for a Sasquatch costume this year, kids. Temperatures will reach into the low 60s on Saturday, and the worst things are going to get is a balmy 40 degrees.
If you're taking the ankle-biters (not the Kibble-eating kind - well, not usually) out for some trick or treating, take a minute and refresh yourself on Halloween safety. I know, I know, I'm being a total mom. Even so, it's better to be safe than sorry.
As for the rest of you: Don't do anything I wouldn't do. Which, when it comes to this town, doesn't really leave much out.

Vincent Price Double Feature

Give yourself goosebumps with these two classics: House on Haunted Hill, the 1959 film starring none other than Vincent Price as the shadowy character who offers five strangers $10,000 if they can stay a whole night in a house with a reputation for murder; and The Last Man on Earth (1964), in which Price plays Dr. Morgan, the only survivor of a worldwide plague of the undead. The showings are free, but get around early – seating is limited. Oh, and don't forget to dress up for the costume contest.

Starting bright and early at 8am, the main strip of one of Tulsa's most beloved historic neighborhoods will be transformed into a Halloween runway. The Kids' Zone opens at 11am, and trick-or-treating gets into gear at high noon. The pet costume contest will commence in the Food Pyramid parking lot at noon, followed by the children's costume contest. Don't miss the Thriller Dance Class at Ida Red at 2; then, stick around for the annual BooHaHa Parade at 3pm, from 33rd-49th Streets. It's all free and open to the public.

There's more to do at the Tulsa Corn Maize than just get lost. Haunted Castle Halloween Festival

Where: The Castle at Muskogee, 3400 Fern Mountain Road
Fun for kids and the young at heart alike, The Castle delivers nine spooktacular events, ranging from not-so-scary to really-really-scary, across a 60-acre Halloween-themed park. From the sinister, fog-shrounded forest to the carnival atmosphere of Halloween Land, everyone is sure to find performances and activities they'll never forget. Camp Cute & Spooky

Where: Discoveryland!
Kids 10 and under can hit the trail to west Tulsa for an evening of great Halloween fun at Discoveryland!'s entertainment complex. Catch everything from a trick-or-treat trail through a lighted enchanted forest to a haystack jump to the "Monster Mash" dance stage. Admission is $6 (or $5 for the crafty among you who head to Quiktrip or Incredible Pizza for those $1 off coupons) and includes all activities. Don't forget to don those costumes.
HallowZOOeen

Where: Tulsa Zoo & Living Museum
Get wild this Halloween and bring your boys and "ghouls" to trick-or-treat at the wildest neighborhood in town. A spooky, but not too scary, Halloween adventure is planned at this 20th annual HallowZOOeen. Get treats at Goblin Stops, play games and see zoo mascots as you roam the trick-or-treat trail. General admission is $7 (or $6 for members), and kids under 2 and not trick-or-treating will be admitted free. Don't forget to bring that extra pillowcase.
Hallowmarine

Where: Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks
Great ready for Halloween on the high seas - the Oklahoma Aquarium is spooky (and salty!) with carnival games, a trick-or-treat trail, haunted feed shows and plenty of pirates handing out tricks and treats. Admission is $7 per youth, $10 per adult.
Pumpkin Party & Parade

Where: Whiteside Community Center
Head to Whiteside for a parade, play games and enjoy a few snacks with friends. For ages 2-5 years. All participants must be pre-enrolled, so call Whiteside soon. Admission is $6.
Mummy and Son Halloween Dance

At this second of annual Mummy & Son Halloween dances there will be dance competitions along with costume contest for those who dare to dress up. Plenty of refreshments will be on hand, the DJ Connection will provide the tunes. Cost is $5 per person.
Halloween Carnival

Where: Whiteside Community Center
Join the ghosts and goblins at Whiteside for a fun, safe Halloween experience. Admission is $5 for kids aged 2-8, which includes unlimited game play. Adults are admitted free.

There's nothing like coming home from a night of trick-or-treating to a toilet papered house and smashed pumpkins. Don't get mad - do something about it. Heighten crime awareness this Halloween and still have a good time on Main Street in Broken Arrow. Look for the special Katy engine from Union Pacific Railroad, a magic show, performances by the BA Hip Hop Cops and free food from Reasor's and Blue Bell Ice Cream. Plus, the Green Country Roller Girls will be handing out candy. Killer!
Halloween Night at the Winery

Bring your little ones to a scenic Oklahoma winery for some Halloween fun. Snag some cupcakes and cider for the kids and a more bitter brew for yourself. Don't forget to get your photo taken with the Wine Gnome - very spooky indeed.
Annual "Pumpkin" Hunt

Where: Central Park in Broken Arrow, 1500 S. Main Street
Guess how many "pumpkins" (read: plastic eggs with Halloween goodies inside) will be hidden in Central Park this year, just for kids ages 1-7 to hunt? 4,000, that's how many. It's all free and open to the public, and the kiddos are encouraged to come in costume. Stick around for the Main Street Merchants Night Out Against Crime, which packs free activities, food, safety and crime prevention information all into one fun-filled evening.
Halloween Carnival

Where: Chamberlain Park
Join the Chamberlain Park Staff and community volunteers for a sook-tacular time. Little ghosts and gouls can participate in carnival games, get candy and have fun. Ages 1-12 are welcome, and everyone gets in free.

Psycho Path Haunted Attraction
When: Now-Halloween; 7-11pm
Where: 15157 E. 106th Street North in Sperry
The woods are shrouded by a blanket of fog. All you can see is the narrow path taking you deeper and deeper into the darkness, where creatures wait behind every twist and turn. Your blood suddenly runs cold - you've realized there's no turning back. The Psycho Path may be your only way home. Yikes! When there's a haunted path, a spooky ride-through and a haunted house, there's sure to be scares and screams for all. Tickets range $8-40; visit the Psycho Path site for details and ticket sales.
The Hex House

35th Annual Freakers Ball

Back in '74, a group of folks wanted to put together a wild night of costumes and music. Good thing for you that they're still partying down at Cain's Ballroom 35 years later, making the Freakers Ball the longest running costume contest in the state. Need more convincing? Nearly two dozen local acts will be rocking the monster mash. Tickets are $10 at the door, $9 in advance.

We all share those memories of bone-chilling All Hallows' Eves of yore – you remember, the time you decided to be Superman or Tinkerbell the year the temperatures plummeted to 29 degrees. You won't be wishing for a Sasquatch costume this year, kids. Temperatures will reach into the low 60s on Saturday, and the worst things are going to get is a balmy 40 degrees.
If you're taking the ankle-biters (not the Kibble-eating kind - well, not usually) out for some trick or treating, take a minute and refresh yourself on Halloween safety. I know, I know, I'm being a total mom. Even so, it's better to be safe than sorry.
As for the rest of you: Don't do anything I wouldn't do. Which, when it comes to this town, doesn't really leave much out.

Starting bright and early at 8am, the main strip of one of Tulsa's most beloved historic neighborhoods will be transformed into a Halloween runway. The Kids' Zone opens at 11am, and trick-or-treating gets into gear at high noon. The pet costume contest will commence in the Food Pyramid parking lot at noon, followed by the children's costume contest. Don't miss the Thriller Dance Class at Ida Red at 2; then, stick around for the annual BooHaHa Parade at 3pm, from 33rd-49th Streets. It's all free and open to the public.

Haunted Castle Halloween Festival

Where: The Castle at Muskogee, 3400 Fern Mountain Road
Fun for kids and the young at heart alike, The Castle delivers nine spooktacular events, ranging from not-so-scary to really-really-scary, across a 60-acre Halloween-themed park. From the sinister, fog-shrounded forest to the carnival atmosphere of Halloween Land, everyone is sure to find performances and activities they'll never forget. Camp Cute & Spooky

Where: Discoveryland!
Kids 10 and under can hit the trail to west Tulsa for an evening of great Halloween fun at Discoveryland!'s entertainment complex. Catch everything from a trick-or-treat trail through a lighted enchanted forest to a haystack jump to the "Monster Mash" dance stage. Admission is $6 (or $5 for the crafty among you who head to Quiktrip or Incredible Pizza for those $1 off coupons) and includes all activities. Don't forget to don those costumes.
HallowZOOeen

Where: Tulsa Zoo & Living Museum
Get wild this Halloween and bring your boys and "ghouls" to trick-or-treat at the wildest neighborhood in town. A spooky, but not too scary, Halloween adventure is planned at this 20th annual HallowZOOeen. Get treats at Goblin Stops, play games and see zoo mascots as you roam the trick-or-treat trail. General admission is $7 (or $6 for members), and kids under 2 and not trick-or-treating will be admitted free. Don't forget to bring that extra pillowcase.

Look for the special Katy engine from Union Pacific Railroad, a magic show, performances by the BA Hip Hop Cops and free food from Reasor's and Blue Bell Ice Cream. Plus, the Green Country Roller Girls will be handing out candy. Killer!
Halloween Night at the Winery

Annual "Pumpkin" Hunt

Guess how many "pumpkins" (read: plastic eggs with Halloween goodies inside) will be hidden in Central Park this year, just for kids ages 1-7 to hunt? 4,000, that's how many. It's all free and open to the public, and the kiddos are encouraged to come in costume. Stick around for the Main Street Merchants Night Out Against Crime, which packs free activities, food, safety and crime prevention information all into one fun-filled evening.
Halloween Carnival

Where: Chamberlain Park
Join the Chamberlain Park Staff and community volunteers for a sook-tacular time. Little ghosts and gouls can participate in carnival games, get candy and have fun. Ages 1-12 are welcome, and everyone gets in free.

Psycho Path Haunted Attraction

Where: 15157 E. 106th Street North in Sperry
The woods are shrouded by a blanket of fog. All you can see is the narrow path taking you deeper and deeper into the darkness, where creatures wait behind every twist and turn. Your blood suddenly runs cold - you've realized there's no turning back. The Psycho Path may be your only way home. Yikes! When there's a haunted path, a spooky ride-through and a haunted house, there's sure to be scares and screams for all. Tickets range $8-40; visit the Psycho Path site for details and ticket sales.
The Hex House

What's this little horse show about? It's about being the most prestigious North American championship in the Arabian show horse industry, that's what. This event offers Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses while both amateur and professional riders or handlers compete in competitions from halter and native costuming to western and hunter classes. Believe it or not, this horse show also offers world-class shopping and barn parties.

The event starring the celebrity accidental country girl held at Tulsa Historical Society Tuesday night was a huge hit. So huge, in fact, that BookSmart Tulsa ran clean out of books. Good thing Ree Drummond, the one and only Pioneer Woman, agreed to hang out at Dwelling Spaces Friday afternoon to sign books for those who didn't get a chance to chat and snag an autograph. Just remember: Show coordinators are not responsible for injuries or damage. Yowzas.
