Tulsa Shock: A Mom at a Professional Women's Basketball Game

Often, I wish I knew more about sports. I wasn't one of those kids who was ferried to a plethora of sports activities after school and on weekends. I went to dance, music and band classes, yeah, but basketball, soccer and softball? Not so much.

So, when I find myself at a major sporting event here in Tulsa, whether it's at ONEOK Field or the BOK Center, I often find myself also in cluelessville.

Thanks to the One2One Network, my husband and I were invited to last Friday's Tulsa Shock game vs. the Minnesota Linx at the BOK Center.

Wanna go fishing with me this Friday?

For the 33rd year in a row, Tulsa-based Zebco - arguably the most famous brand in fishing - will stock 10,000 fish in LaFortune, Mohawk and Jenks' Veterans ponds. Tulsa's Own Biggest Loser: The Southie

As TDT’s resident Southie, I like to talk about cool happenings in south Tulsa and the nearby out-lying areas.

And, as a resident of this part of Tulsa, I can’t help but notice that huge numbers of people in this part of town walking around in what I would describe as workout attire.

In fact, living in this part of town, I would have to say that workout attire must be a wardrobe staple for the typical Southie. Knowing this, we could then assume that all of these Southies are constantly working out.

But then, I wondered. Are they really working out 24/7 as how they're usually dressed suggests?

I don’t know, but since Jimmy Lee from Jimmy Lee’s Total Fitness, at 128th and Memorial, would say that most Oklahomans are at least 50 pounds overweight, maybe they should be.

Starting Tomorrow! Bike to Work Week in Tulsa

Tomorrow kicks off Bike to Work Week here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a city that's more bike-friendly than you think.

To urge you to trade the gas guzzler for a more traditional, two-piston mode of transportation, the folks over at INCOG's Transportation Department are hosting a bike-friendly event every day this week, complete with drinks, food, prizes and free entertainment. Here's a list of the goings-on.

Concession stand staples go gourmet at Oneok Field

Peanuts, Cracker Jack, hot dogs and cold beer — these are the consumables we expect to see on a menu board above a ballpark concession stand. Of course, all of these noshes are available at Oneok Field, which celebrated its grand opening April 8.

But shrimp, kabobs, bistro-style carving stations with prime rib and pork loin and a specialty dessert cart, on which many of the items are made by Tulsa’s own Merritt’s Bakery — these are more on the unexpected side.

This upscale, gourmet menu will be available to sports fans in the 23 suites at Oneok Field. Suite and club seat holders also have access to the private restaurant and bar at the park, Tycoon’s, which features an outdoor balcony and seating for 80.

A Downtown Deal for Sports Fans This Weekend

So let’s get this out of the way right up front: any event that involves a ball and keeping score, I’m there. Four out-of-shape, middle-aged guys playing doubles tennis at the neighborhood park? Sure, I’ll lean on the chain link fence for a few minutes.

Having said that, I’ve been to enough sporting events in my life to have my gameday expectations firmly set on “Realistic,” if not outright “Jaded.” So when I received an email from the Tulsa 66ers pro basketball front office touting a package that seemed too good to be true, I figured it was just that.

Here was the sweetheart deal: four premium seats, four hot dogs, four sodas, two popcorns… for $44.
