In the world we live in today, most people I know are rarely without a camera.

Roller Derby in Pictures: Erin Sees Tulsa

This was my second time at the Roller Derby out in Broken Arrow. And really, there's nothing quite like it.

Running Toward the Neon Lights: Erin Sees Tulsa

neon signs: erin sees tulsa

Nothing stops me dead in my tracks quite like a neon sign.

Well, that might be a slight exaggeration. Let me rephrase: Nothing stops me dead in my tracks quite like a neon sign when I have my polaroid camera on board.

Wanna Play More Tulsa Mystery Photo?

UPDATE//We have a winner to what will probably be the easiest TDT Mystery Photo contest evar!!1!

Boot ~C, congrats. You are one Tulsa-fluent cookie. E-mail me ASAP to claim your prize - a $20 gift certificate to the Tulsa-owned eatery of your choice.

Remember how I said that even if you weren't the first to correctly guess the location depicted in the photo that you should still leave a comment? Here's why.

AE, congrats! The Random.org gods are pleased with you and have instructed me to award you with a $10 gift certificate to the Tulsa-owned eatery of your choice. E-mail me soon to claim your prize.

Thanks for playing, y'all - more TDT Mystery Photo contests to come.

Mystery Photo

Maybe you're lounging by the pool and need a break from that romance novel you have hidden inside the latest issue of Sports Illustrated. Or maybe you're at the lake and are looking for some reprieve from boating and swimming and weenie roasting.

Or, maybe you're sitting inside on your couch on this beautiful, sunny Saturday of Memorial Day weekend 2010, playing Web monkey and sifting through your feed reader while sipping an Old Pavilion and eating a stale donut while wearing last year's bathing suit.

Not that I would know anything about any of that.

At any rate, here's a little fun for your first "official" weekend of summer: Another edition of Tulsa Mystery Photo.

Here's how this works: If you guess the subject of the picture that follows, you win a $20 gift certificate to the locally owned restaurant of your choice. If a place serves food and it's within Tulsa city limits and you like it enough to grace it with your presence, and if you're clever and quick about what's depicted in today's photo, you're about to be $20 richer in hometown deliciousness.

Since I have a feeling this one's gonna go quickly, I'm not gonna give hints this time - that is, unless by the time I get back from lounging on the deck at my $6.72 million-dollar lake lodge while being fanned and served yet more Old Pavilion by all the mean girls from my high school all afternoon, no one has managed a correct guess.

Here we go:

Mystery Photo

BAM!

Know what it is? Leave your answer in the comments! The first correct answer gets the prize.

But even if you're too late to make the first correct guess, go ahead and place your bets. I mean, you never know - there might be something in it for you, if you know what I mean.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

Here's the Church, Here's the Steeple: Erin Sees Tulsa

UPDATE//Valerie, you are officially the "Tulsa Steeple Know It All," guessing 9 out of 10 of the home of the steeples correctly. Apparently #9 was entirely too difficult. I would apologize, but I like the picture too much to do that. Congrats, Valerie! Wear this title proudly.

For everyone else who is wondering exactly where these steeples belong in this, the greatest city on earth, here are the answers:

1 First United Methodist
2 First Baptist
3 Boston Ave
4 Kirk
5 Vernon AME
6 Holy Family
7 Asbury
8 First Pres
9 Trinity
10 Christ the King

Cheers!

holy family.

As you well know, there is so much to do and see in Tulsa that sometimes I get overwhelmed with what to share with you each Thursday.

See Your City Differently: Erin Sees Tulsa

How many of you take the same, exact drive to work everyday? How many of you reach your destination and couldn't tell me what you saw because you're so accustomed to seeing it everyday?

Weber's Superior Root Beer: Erin Sees Tulsa

Weber's

Joining us today is Tulsa photographer Erin Conrad. I fell in love with Erin's work in and around Tulsa and with her photoblog, ErinConrad.com. Erin will be blogging at TDT each week as Erin Sees Tulsa.

As the newest columnist here at TDT, you need to know something about me from the very begninning. I love polaroids. And I firmly believe there is nothing quite like the timeless, classic feel that a polaroid image can capture.

Blue Dome Arts Festival: In Color

If I could put together a slogan that would make everyone involved with the Blue Dome Arts Festival cringe, it would probably go a little something like this:

Blue Dome Arts Festival: Like Mayfest, but a couple of blocks to the northeast.

I've been keeping something from you. See, it's about these photos...

I've been keeping something from you, my dear, intellectually superior, inordinately attractive readers. Something very, very exciting - not just for me, but for a boatload of people.

And not a little boatload of people. I'm talking about one of those big party barge things where there's room not only for all of your friends, but also for bocce ball, a cartwheel contest and beer pong.

THS/TDT Photo Show

That's how I feel about what I'm about to tell you: Like bocce ball, a cartwheel contest and beer pong all wrapped up into one glorious bit of great news.

Tulsa Photos Galore

My Favorites

Once I finally figured out the social media platform to which photo geeks so lovingly refer as Flickr enough to be able to use it without causing anyone any life-threatening injuries, I thought it'd be cool to make a Tasha Does Tulsa Flickr group, a place for T-Towners to pile photos they shot while shuffling around town.

I went about it all nonchalantly, thinking a user or two would join the group and add their takes on the quintessential Tulsa photo, the skyline shot.

We do have a pretty nice skyline, it's true. But much more became of this Flickr group than the old hat. That it has more than five dozen members, plenty of whom are professional photographers, and 600 photos helps to diversify things a little.

Besides sticking the group button in the sidebar here at TashaDoesTulsa.com, I've been enjoying the photos added to this group from behind closed doors, more or less. It's not that I'm selfish or that I didn't learn to share in kindergarten (really, I didn't - I had to learn that life lesson later, much later). What matters is that now, folks, I'm sharing.

Feast thine eyes:

University of Tulsa Homecoming bonfire 2009

By robertdx. Now you know what you've been missing when you decide to stay home from the homecoming festivities at the University of Tulsa.

If you can tell where this next photo was taken, odds are you are a born-and-raised Tulsan.

YO!

By okbeatnik, who is also doing a great job tackling the photo project, 77 Counties.

If you guessed that this is the neon sign at the Mayo Garage downtown, just a skip and a jump from the newly renovated Mayo Hotel, then you guessed right. Now, go have yourself a cookie.

Anyone seen the Mayo Hotel sign ablaze in the night sky? My friends who live downtown (of whom I am intensely jealous) say it can be seen for miles around.

Random 147

By art house film. I used to walk down this street every week day. Photos like these make me want to rent an office downtown. Or, at least, eat lunch there everyday.

Working downtown is the best.

By ~munson~, an IRL friend who has the prettiest hair I've ever seen, IRL and otherwise. Think Minnie Driver, but curlier and shinier and bouncier. You'll have to ask her directly for a chance to see it.

By bouldinshots.

Guess where this shot was snapped:

The Dugout

By Shannon Hall. No, really, guess. I want to see if you can figure it out.

The Badwich from Elmer's BBQ

By cooknken.

What? Did you really think I could make it through a Tulsa photos post without including a shot of a gloriously sloppy sandwich from a legendary local BBQ joint? Surely you didn't think that. You're rational humans.

Anyone in the mood to go to the drive-in?

Back Fence

By Wade from Oklahoma.

Look! It's the gardens at Philbrook - in miniature.

Philbrook Gardens Tiltshift

By BrettMorrison. Last night I innocently showed this photo to my husband, an underground Minolta patriot, which earned me a fifteen minute "discussion" on tiltshift photography.

An interesting person, my husband. I learn the most unexpected things from him in the most unexpected ways.

Thank you to everyone who continues to add photos to the TDT group on Flickr. Thanks to you, I didn't get any laundry done last night, and the dishes from dinner are still in the sink, but my mind is now a more colorful place. My personal concept of how Tulsa looks has been altered.

See the rest of my picks of the crop, and feel free to add a few of your own photos. Because if you don't, I might just have to leave the couch. No one wants that. That is, if no one is me.

You, Too, Can Do Tulsa: Flickr Version

Your loving social media addict is building a collection of photos of people doing Tulsa. Here's what I have so far:

Created with flickr slideshow.

If you have a Flickr account (and if you don't, well, you should), join and upload your Tulsa photos to the You, Too, Can Do Tulsa group. Feel free to come find me, too.

I'm working on geotagging the photos in the group, just for extra fun. It'd be exciting to see a photo map of folks playing all over Tulsa, right? I think so, too.

Enjoy.
